Our committee met Saturday, August 29th, 9 am walking from McMicken past UC’s 8
acres of wilderness, up the Ohio Street stairs into Belleview Park. We discussed our
concept of an adventure park with zip line, having local residents staff with
apprenticeships, including reopening the Ransohoff concessions building.
We also noticed street corridors in OTR that have no sidewalk trees, and experienced
hotter temps without shade. We remembered planting trees along McMicken years ago,
and hope to again structure our proposal to include residents performing the
preparation work until Urban Forestry takes over providing and planting the trees.
We also walked past other gardening such as our wonderful community gardens by
Rothenberg and of course the Peoples Garden, and how we could expand on the
opportunities with additional planting areas along the sidewalks where no other option
exists. Other localities are doing this, allowing residents an opportunity to volunteer to
plant and maintain these sidewalk squares, so why not here?
We also noticed an article about an upcoming park in Kenton County, Kentucky,
featuring an adventure park and zip line. Since when did the suburbs become the
cutting edge location for resident life enhancement projects?
